Know your chips

There are many various reasons that glass can be damaged and the most common is a Stone Chip.

Stone chips should be assessed and mended as soon as you notice the damage. The longer they are left, the more chance that they will become ingrained with damp or dirt making the stone chip repair less effective.

A stone chipped windscreen repair is more likely to be more effective as soon as possible after the damage has occurred.

There are two distinct types of stone chipped windscreen repair

These chips, as the name suggests, resemble a star, with cracks emanating from the point of impact.

These, ideally need a stone chip repair performing as soon as possible. If left, there is a chance that any of the  cracks could grow. This is caused by changes in temperature, or jolting from uneven roads.

Once this chip has turned into a crack, the whole windscreen will need a full replacement.

The Bullseye stone chipped windscreen generally consists of the point of impact, surrounded by a near perfect circle of damage. This is often created when something large hits the glass. This type of stone chip generally repairs very well, but again needs a stone chipped windscreen  repair as soon as possible to stop damp or dirt getting ingrained into the point of impact
